PureGear Mobile Lifestyle Series: Mayte Garcia, Dancer, Actress, Singer and Choreographer

In our Mobile Lifestyle Series, we talk with extraordinary personalities from all walks of life about their mobile devices – what they love about them, how they use and personalize them – and, occasionally, how they break them.

Mayte Garcia is a dancer, actress, singer, and choreographer. At 18 years old, she was chosen as a featured dancer and background singer for Prince and the New Power Generation, and then later became Prince’s wife. She has guest starred on various television series such as: "Psych", "The Closer", "Las Vegas", "Nip/Tuck", and "Keeping Up with the Kardashians". She’s also had a recurring role on Lifetime's "Army Wives" and earlier this year, began appearing as a principal cast member on VH1's reality show "Hollywood Exes".

1. How did you get started in the business?
I started dancing at the age of 3 and was on "That's Incredible" at the age of 8. I continued to dance and joined Prince and the NPG at the age of 18.

2. What are you working on now?
I am shooting season 2 of VH1's "Hollywood Exes" right now.

3. What has been your favorite gig so far?
I would have to say dancing with Prince and touring the world, and just dancing (all types of dance) has been my favorite gig to date.

4. What role does your smartphone play in your on-set experience?
I am tech obsessed. I have a habit of getting phones that aren't released yet here in the U.S. I use my smartphone for reviewing scripts and lines. I also send quick videos for personal use. I use the camera for social media and basically organize my closet with it. I scan papers for business instead of faxing. I pretty much use both of my phones to their fullest capacity.

5. What’s the longest you’ve gone without using and/or checking your phone?
Haha! 7 days in Bora Bora and I came back more stressed than before. Also a week in London, I didn't have my phone service but I did have it via Wi-Fi so it wasn't that bad.

6. What are your favorite apps?
The mirror app, especially on set shooting right now. I also use the maps app, social media apps, Camera Plus, and games!

7. How often do you update your status, tweet, etc.?
While working not so much because we can't share what's going on, but while I am promoting I try to update at least 2-3 times a day.

8. Do you have any mobile horror stories?
LOL – I have dropped my phone and cracked my iPhone screen. I was heartbroken but then I found someone to fix it. Auto correct is hilarious. I now understand whenever someone sends me something weird, I know they have an iPhone.

9. What platform are you on? iOS or Android?
Both!

10. When did you get your first smartphone?
I had the Skytel, that wasn't a smartphone but I had the Palm when it came out and all of the iPhones and Blackberrys.

11. What accessories do you use and what do you use them for?
I just use a nice cover that I like to change with my clothes and mood, other than that no accessories.

12. What’s your ringtone?
I have different ringtones for different people. For general phone calls, I will use my favorite at the moment, but I use different songs to identify them.

13. Have you ever lost your phone? What happened?
NO! Don't jinx me, but if I did I'd find my iPhone and locate it as fast as I could, and then just call it until it died.
